FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
From what age does Fusion take new students?
Our Infants classes are for four years plus. However, if your child will be turning four during term time you may be able to enrol them for the start of that term.
Can I try Fusion before committing to a full term?
Of course you can! We currently offer a free day trial at any point during the term, in which you simply contact us to book your trial day and bring along your child to get involved in our classes. All our staff and pupils are very friendly and here to make sure your child has the best experience on their first day.
My child doesn’t have a performance background, does that matter?
Of course not! Our lessons are here to give your child a unique and fun experience no matter what the level. At Fusion we strongly believe every individual should be offered a platform from which they can step out, get noticed and dare to be different. We capture imaginations, inspiring and nurturing shy first-timers and confident West End hopefuls alike. All of our staff are here to ensure each student gets expert tuition no matter what the experience.
How much does it cost to attend Fusion?
Our student classes are £16 a session which can be paid by 3 post-dated cheques dated for the beginning of each term or you can pay as one lump sum at the discounted price of £15 a session. How long is a term at Fusion?
There are three terms a year and each is 12 weeks long. We generally have half term breaks off from Fusion, but occasionally during show term, we will continue straight through. All changes to timetabling are given to parents well in advance.
When does Fusion run?
We are located at City Limits Dance Studios on Penistone Road in Sheffield. Our classes run every Sunday during term time from 10:30am-1:30pm for our student classes and 1:30pm-3:30pm for our infant class. Our classes are never during school hours, with most schools running over the weekends in the morning and afternoon. During show term, we occasionally run additional rehearsals, as well as tech and dress rehearsals before a show which can run on a weekday. Again, all this additional timetabling is given to parents well in advance to ensure there aren’t any problems.
How long does Fusion run for each week?
Infant classes run for 120 minutes each week, with 30 minutes dedicated to each discipline, and a 30min break in between. Student classes runs for three hours each week, with one hour dedicated to each discipline.
What does my child need to wear to Fusion?
Jazz shoes or pumps are the only compulsory piece of uniform at Fusion. We also ask that our students wear comfortable clothes that they can move in; a t-shirt and black jogging bottoms / dance leggings. We ask that students please don’t wear fashion clothes and shoes as this limits how much they can move in dance and drama classes.
What should my child bring to lesson?
Students are expected to wear comfortable clothes which are easy to move in. We have changing rooms available at City Limits, if your child wishes to change into their class clothes before lessons. We also encourage students to bring water (in a resealable bottle) which they can enjoy at any time. The staff at City Limits are also on hand to refill their bottles if needed. Our infants are welcome to bring their own packed lunch with them and drink to enjoy during their break time. On the run up to show term, our students are occasionally given scripts and lyrics which we ask each student to look after and bring with them to rehearsals. Any personal medication should be brought and discussed with our centre assistant upon arrival.
What should we do if we are unable to attend our usual Fusion class one week?
If you find that you are unable to attend your usual Fusion class one week we ask that you let either our centre assistant Janice or Gabi, giving as much notice as possible. We encourage students to attend every week as the schools' are usually working towards an end of term demonstration or production.
How do I find out about photoshoot and recording session opportunities?
We offer all of our students 1:1 professional tuition at our associate recording studio Old Pig Farm and photography sessions for headshots and show promotional images with professional photographer Andy Brown. Each student is in term given these as a running portfolio. Information about each of these sessions are advertised in our newsletters given out to students and parents during term. All information about term details, up and coming workshops and performance dates can be found on here or our one of our social media sites.
Your child is in safe hands at Fusion Youth Theatre.
We have a clear commitment to child protection and the safeguarding of our students is of the highest priority. We Require all of our teachers and assistants to apply for Enhanced Clearance via the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, formerly Criminal Records Bureau or CRB). Gabi and our teachers are always on hand if any parent has any concerns about their child and wish to talk to us on a 1:1 basis. Your child’s happiness and wellbeing is our number one priority at Fusion.
